Ethereum bounces back as Middle East tensions ease, but macro pressures persist
Ethereum recovers as US-Iran strike fears ease, but macro headwinds like Fed tightening and Middle East risks cap upside.
Cardano held near $0.20 after three straight weekly losses as negative funding and sell-side signals kept the outlook bearish.
Main points
On Monday, Cardano slipped under $0.202, with stress continuing to show up in derivative positioning, spot market activity and technical gauges.
After three consecutive weekly declines, the token was near $0.201, down more than 20% since early October. It still trades under a set of major moving averages, a sign that buyers have not managed to build a durable rebound.
Momentum is getting close to oversold conditions, yet the overall picture still leans bearish. A bounce in the near term would run into multiple resistance levels before the outlook could improve meaningfully.
CoinGlass data put Cardano's long-to-short ratio at 0.92 on Monday, near its lowest mark in over a month.
Any number under 1 means short positions are larger than long positions in the sample. That points to a wary market, with traders still preferring downside bets.
The funding rate on ADA has also gone negative, at -0.0032%. A negative funding reading implies shorts are paying longs to hold, which aligns with firmer demand for bearish positioning.
Taken as a whole, these indicators back the soft price trend, though they do not by themselves ensure further declines.
CryptoQuant's broader gauges reinforce that caution. The service highlights big whale orders and overheating in ADA's futures market. Its spot and futures signals also point to sell-side dominance, meaning the pressure is not limited to leveraged bets.
Large trades by themselves don't reveal which way whales are leaning. Still, combined with the flagged sell imbalance and negative funding, the data gives only faint signs that buying demand is gaining the upper hand.
The daily chart for Cardano stays bearish, as the price holds under the 50-day, 100-day and 200-day exponential moving averages.
Those averages are clustered between roughly $0.218 and $0.237, creating a stack of overhead resistance.
The Relative Strength Index sits at 33, a touch above the usual oversold cutoff of 30. Such a reading shows sustained weakness yet allows for a short-term bounce.
MACD is still in negative territory, with the MACD line running beneath its signal line. The indicator's mild bearish setup does little to suggest momentum is swinging toward buyers.
Cardano's immediate ceiling is the former trendline break around $0.213. Beyond that, $0.218 (100-day EMA) and $0.224 (50-day EMA) await buyers. Additional resistance can be found near $0.236, backed by the 200-day EMA at $0.237.
A decisive push above that group would put $0.245 on the radar, with $0.299 acting as a farther hurdle.
To the downside, the closest psychological marker is $0.200, given that ADA is trading just above that level.
For the bulls, getting back above $0.213 would be a first positive step. A firmer turnaround would need ADA to clear the moving averages, with momentum strengthening and selling pressure fading.
