Bitcoin rebounded to $82,500 after falling below $80,000 last week, but upcoming US oil inventory data may revive inflation fears and test support.
After dipping below $80,000 last week, bitcoin has rebounded to roughly $82,500.
However, the recovery is set for a significant challenge on Wednesday, when new US oil inventory figures might reignite the inflation concerns that sparked the downturn.
Bitcoin dropped to $79,770 on Thursday following investor reaction to a worrying US inflation reading. Consumer prices in September climbed 3.7% year-over-year, surpassing the 3.6% forecast.
Stronger producer price and retail sales data heightened worries that the Fed might increase rates once more. The strain rippled through financial markets.
While CPI inflation up to 3.7%, inflation is much higher in many crucial categories:

Tech stocks experienced steep declines, and investors scaled back their exposure to assets seen as riskier, including digital currencies.
By Monday, the situation had brightened. Oil prices and US Treasury yields were lower, alleviating some inflation worries.
Traders also lowered their expectations of an imminent rate increase by the Fed, with markets now assigning roughly an 87% chance that rates stay steady on October 28. Nonetheless, the rebound has a vulnerability.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw roughly â$228 million in net outflowsâ last week. Institutional appetite has not yet demonstrated a credible reversal.
Bitunix analysts say Wednesday's crude oil inventory data from the US Energy Information Administration is a significant catalyst on the horizon.
If oil inventories shrink more than anticipated, energy prices could rise, amplifying inflation concerns and adding pressure on bitcoin.
On the other hand, a surprise build-up in inventories could pull oil prices down and calm worries about additional monetary tightening.
The $80,000 mark remains bitcoin's key near-term support. A sustained drop beneath it could lead to a retest of last week's trough.
Moving above $84,000â$85,000, especially with more robust ETF inflows, would provide firmer proof that buying interest has returned.

The alerts say hostilities could spread, and Iran and its allies may target US interests including American businesses.
The softness goes further than bitcoin. Just 40% of the 300 digital assets monitored by Bitunix posted gains last week, with a median return of â2.03%. But a few smaller coins climbed significantly.
Basic Attention Token (BAT) jumped 99.43%, backed by enthusiasm for the growing Brave browser ecosystem, which has 128 million monthly users and over 200,000 Brave Rewards Card sign-ups.
The rally might have been fueled by speculative activity. BAT futures open interest rose 60% in one day, and funding rates were still negative, pointing to conditions that could encourage short squeezes.
At the same time, Ethereum layer-2 tokens ZK and STRK each added over 40%, mirroring targeted demand for zero-knowledge technology.
Such advances do not automatically signal a wider market rebound or higher adoption.
Bitcoinâs rebound has handed buyers some ground to protect the $80,000 level. Whether that support holds through the week hinges on the path of inflation expectations and the return of more robust demand.
