Oil surge triggers $635M outflow from bitcoin ETFs
Investors pulled $635 million from spot bitcoin ETFs on Thursday as oil prices surged on Middle East tensions, sending bitcoin briefly below $81,000.
BTCC reported $387B in futures volume, a 6x increase in TradFi volume to $16.3B, and $121M in user savings.
BTCC, the longest-running cryptocurrency exchange globally, published its third-quarter 2026 performance data. The report emphasized that the company's zero-barrier trading strategy resulted in all-time high futures trading activity, a sixfold increase in traditional market volume, and $121 million in cost reductions for its customers.
Futures volume on BTCC reached $387 billion during the third quarter, a 32% increase compared to the previous quarter. The exchange's busiest day occurred on August 21, 2026, when daily volume hit $16.7 billion as Bitcoin began its rally in late August.
The growth was not limited to digital assets. Traditional finance trading volumes increased from $2.7 billion in the second quarter to $16.3 billion. Additionally, BTCC introduced USDC-margined pairs for cryptocurrencies such as BTC and DOGE, along with equities like SKHYNIX and MRNA.
The exchange's registered user count climbed to 12.6 million, driven by traders seeking a single platform for both crypto and traditional market activity.
In addition to volume growth, BTCC focused on reducing trading costs. During Q3, zero-fee trading pairs and first-trade loss protection provided $121 million in benefits to users:
The zero-fee approach is just one element of the zero-barrier concept; users also require assurance that their funds are secure. For this reason, BTCC increased its Risk Reserve Fund by $2.5 million, raising the total to $28 million during Q3. This fund serves as extra safeguarding for customer assets in case of unforeseen market events.
BTCC keeps its Proof of Reserves ratio above 100% consistently. A Merkle tree-audited report from October 2026 indicates a total PoR of 132%, with all key cryptocurrencies over-collateralized:
Along with these numbers, BTCC introduced an updated Trust Center, consolidating its security protocols, financial safeguards, and transparency pledges in a single location. This covers multi-signature cold storage, round-the-clock anti-money-laundering controls, and independent CertiK security audits.
BTCC brought the same message to its community in person at TOKEN2049 Singapore. As Platinum Sponsor, the exchange presented its 0-Barrier Trading concept at Marina Bay Sands, structured around four pillars: 0 Fees, 0 Friction, 0 Distance and 0 Panic, representing lower costs, smoother trading, native-language support, and verifiable security.
βTOKEN2049 Singapore gave us the chance to put faces to the community weβve been building for 15 years. It reinforced something we believe at BTCC: trust is earned one trader at a time, through consistency, transparency and a platform that puts users first,β said Alex Hung, Head of Operations at BTCC.
During the second quarter, BTCC designated 0-Barrier Trading as its future direction. By the third quarter, that vision became tangible for traders to witness, utilize, and confirm. As BTCC moves into the last quarter of its 15th anniversary year, it plans to keep pursuing trading without obstacles.
