Bitcoin drops nearly $3,000 as risk-off mood dominates
Bitcoin fell nearly $3,000 to trade near $81,000 as risk-off sentiment pulled equity markets lower.
ADA fell under $0.220 support amid weak momentum and bearish derivatives, risking more losses.
Key points to note
On Thursday, Cardano continued to face downward pressure, changing hands under $0.220 after bulls could not maintain the prior session's rebound above the 50-day EMA.
This rejection has left ADA beneath both its 50-day and 200-day EMAs, reinforcing a bearish short-term view. The current price is just above the 100-day EMA near $0.220, making that level a nearby support.
Derivatives data shows weak positioning and lackluster momentum, indicating that buyers have not gathered sufficient force to reverse the correction.
According to CoinGlass, Cardano's long-to-short ratio stood at 0.96 on Thursday, close to its lowest reading in over a month.
This figure suggests that more accounts are holding short positions, signaling wariness regarding ADA's ability to recover.
Funding rates confirmed the trend. Cardano's funding rate went negative on Wednesday and was -0.0025% on Thursday, meaning shorts were paying longs.
Combined, these metrics show a bearish lean in derivatives positions. While they do not ensure additional declines, they offer scant evidence of renewed bullish conviction.
CryptoQuant's aggregate data also pointed to selling pressure in Cardano markets. The platform noted large whale orders and overheating conditions in futures, as well as sell-side control in both spot and futures markets.
Large orders by themselves do not determine market direction. But their occurrence alongside elevated selling activity contributes to the cautious environment as ADA battles below overhead resistance.
For a firmer recovery to materialize, buyers would need to absorb that supply and maintain price advances above nearby technical hurdles.
Cardano's daily momentum signals still argue for caution. The RSI is stuck in the low 40s, under the neutral 50 mark.
At the same time, the MACD indicator stays negative, hinting that bearish pressure might be waning but without a confirmed trend change.
The initial support lies at the 100-day EMA around $0.220. A decisive break below that would shift attention to the $0.210 region.
Should selling push through $0.210, the chart suggests a more substantial support zone near $0.170. That outcome is contingent on a breach of the closer supports.
On the upside, the 50-day EMA near $0.228–$0.230 represents the first resistance. A sustained climb above that range would relieve near-term pressure and direct focus to horizontal resistance at about $0.236, then the 200-day EMA at about $0.240.
Additional resistance is around $0.250, while $0.300 is a further target if a larger recovery emerges.
At present, ADA's capacity to defend $0.220 is key to its near-term view, given that bearish derivatives positioning and sluggish momentum are restricting any bounce attempts.
