Bitcoin drops nearly $3,000 as risk-off mood dominates
Bitcoin fell nearly $3,000 to trade near $81,000 as risk-off sentiment pulled equity markets lower.
After CZ posts a supercut of Schiff's Bitcoin doom calls, Schiff admits he doesn't know what holds BTC up.
On Monday, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) directed mockery at gold proponent Peter Schiff. A viral supercut compiled years of Schiff's Bitcoin crash predictions. "He will be right one day… after he changes his mind," CZ posted on X.
The supercut spans nearly three minutes, but its closing seconds contain the key moment: Schiff admits he does not know what maintains Bitcoin's value.
A Bitcoin commentator circulated the compilation on X. The post indicates the clips cover Schiff's television and podcast interviews over the past 13 years.
In the video, Schiff labels Bitcoin as 'tulip mania 2.0,' a 'pure Ponzi,' and 'digital fool's gold.' He repeatedly forecast that its price would fall to zero.
When correlated with price, these forecasts emerged at values from about $355 in 2013 to over $111,000 in 2025.
Other clips associate Bitcoin ETFs with what Schiff describes as one of the largest Bitcoin crashes. Another clip suggests that if Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) liquidated its coins, BTC would crash.

But the final clip contradicts Schiff's earlier thesis. Schiff notes that the asset is trading at roughly $81,800 'as we're speaking.'
'I don't know what's holding Bitcoin up,' he says, adding that it 'should be a lot lower than that.'
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin's price is near $82,500. This is close to the level Schiff found confusing.
Conversely, CZ has opposed the hard-money argument. In September, he stated that Bitcoin could exceed gold's market value in the next cycle.
Schiff has maintained his position. He recently described the drop in gold prices as a benefit after strong inflation data. He also asserts that most stocks are in a bear market.
Ultimately, the Schiff-Zhao feud reflects a broader divide among scarcity investors. Gold supporters prefer metal, while Bitcoin supporters prefer code. After 13 years of crash predictions, neither side appears to be changing its view.
