Grayscale Expands In-Kind Crypto ETF Transfers; Minimums Up to $365,000

Investors with substantial Bitcoin, Solana, or XRP holdings can now shift those assets into traditional finance without an outright sale, thanks to a new Grayscale offering.

The asset manager said eligible clients can exchange digital currencies directly for shares in 10 of its investment products.

By removing the cash conversion step, the change may lower trading costs and simplify crypto management within brokerage accounts.

A Bitcoin holder, for instance, could send BTC via an authorized intermediary and receive shares of the Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF.

That investor retains exposure to Bitcoin's price movements without personally managing the coins.

The Catch: Minimum Investments Reach Up to $365,000

The Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF requires a minimum of roughly $364,800. The Solana Staking ETF starts at about $80,300, and Dogecoin's minimum is $95,550.

XRP-linked products demand around $257,000.

Those amounts are based on October 20 prices and can shift with the market.

The in-kind option also extends to products tied to Ethereum, Avalanche, Chainlink, Hyperliquid, Sui, and Zcash.

To use the new service, investors must go through an authorized participant or a linked intermediary. Grayscale has not publicly disclosed eligibility criteria, and facilitator fees apply.

Additional issues exist.

  • Depositing digital assets could trigger a taxable event.
  • Transactions may face execution delays or slippage, and ETF shares can trade at a premium or discount to their net asset value.
  • These products lack the protections of funds registered under the Investment Company Act of 1940.

Grayscale's move may make it easier to integrate large crypto portfolios into traditional investing. Whether it will attract genuinely new demand is still uncertain.
