Japan's headline consumer price index rose 1.9% in August from a year earlier.
- The reading was below the 2.0% consensus estimate and matched the previous month's 1.9%.
The core-core CPI, which strips out both food and energy, came in at 1.7% year-on-year.
- Economists had anticipated 2.0%, while the prior reading was 1.8%.
The core CPI, excluding only fresh food, also registered 1.7%.
- The forecast was 1.8%, and the previous figure was likewise 1.8%.
