NZDUSD extended its recovery, touching its highest level since September 23 near 0.5704, with the next resistance at the 38.2% retracement of 0.57258.
The NZDUSD has extended its gains, touching a level not seen since September 23. The pair's technical structure has been restored by buyers following a drop from the August 21 peak of 0.59868 to the low of 0.55645 recorded last Wednesday.
The recovery has unfolded in stages. Initially, the exchange rate cleared a descending trendline. It subsequently climbed above its 100- and 200-hour moving averages, widening the gap from those indicators. Later, a breakout through the 0.56256-0.56333 swing region provided further impetus for the bulls.
On the day, the NZDUSD broke through a further swing zone spanning 0.5673-0.5686. What followed gave buyers confidence: the rate pulled back to the zone's upper boundary, held, and reversed higher. That retest allowed it to extend to a daily peak around 0.5704.
The bulls are pressing higher, though a key obstacle remains in front of them.
What is next for the pair?
The next major upside objective is the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of the move from the August 21 high, located at 0.57258.
Why is that level significant? Following a sharp downward move, the 38.2% retracement serves as a minimum gauge for assessing if the bulls are mounting a serious challenge to the downtrend.
The recent advance has brightened the near-term outlook, yet a climb above 0.57258—and holding there—would reinforce the view that buyers are regaining control. Should the rate falter beneath that level, the overall move could still be considered a correction in the broader downtrend.
That distinction is important. A rise offers bulls a chance. Moving above a key resistance level and remaining above it delivers more solid technical evidence.
What risks do buyers face?
To the downside, the floor of the breached swing zone around 0.56736 has become a key support. Bulls will want that level to hold in order to preserve the breakout.
A less aggressive risk marker is the ascending 100-hour moving average at 0.56637. That average is converging with the swing-area support. A decline below both would damage the bullish outlook and increase pressure on buyers.
At present, the pattern supports the bulls: they break resistance, maintain it on a retest, and push toward the next goal. Their task is to sustain this pattern.
