Shiba Inu's X account followed WOOF, a new meme coin, sparking a 971% price surge in a day.
Shiba Inu's official X account has added WOOF, a newly launched Ethereum-based meme coin that is primarily traded against SHIB, to its follow list. The token's price on the SHIB trading pair surged 971% within a day, as reported by DEX Screener.
WOOF's X account was created this month and boasts fewer than 700 followers. The single follow from Shiba Inu thrust the obscure token into the limelight.
Interestingly, WOOF's account itself follows just one profile. Its description notes the token is paired with SHIB, and the pinned post includes the contract address. On-chain data from DEX Screener confirms this pairing exists on the blockchain.

Blockchain records indicate WOOF is an ERC-20 token with a capped total supply of 1 billion. Its primary liquidity pool on Uniswap v4 went live on September 28. That pool pairs the token with SHIB instead of ETH or a stablecoin. Consequently, traders must hold SHIB to access the largest WOOF market.
The SHIB pair contains around $180,000 in liquidity. It registered roughly $1.5 million in trading volume over the last 24 hours. Buy orders outpaced sell orders, with 2,653 buys versus 1,875 sells. The token's market cap stands at about $1.1 million, and Etherscan shows 882 holders.
Such a thin pool can drive price swings in either direction. The smart contract includes limits on buys and holdings, along with a safeguard for the initial launch phase.
For SHIB, the timing adds relevance. Shiba Inu's layer-2 network experienced a steep drop in Shibarium usage earlier in the year. Meanwhile, the team attributed a recent SHIB price rise, which still lagged behind the broader market, to community social media activity. In this context, a new attention-grabbing SHIB pair offers holders another venue to deploy their tokens.
However, a follow does not amount to an endorsement. The Shiba Inu team has not yet disclosed its reason for following WOOF. The critical issue for investors is whether demand for the token persists after the initial excitement wanes. A fizzling hype cycle would hit such a thin pool hardest.
