XRP extends slide amid negative funding and higher yields
XRP fell for a fourth day as negative funding rates and rising U.S. Treasury yields weighed on sentiment, with key support near $1.400 under threat.
XRP gained over 8% as a crypto short squeeze and new Ripple developments drew market attention.
The following are the main points from the report.
XRP appreciated by over 8% in a 24-hour window during a widespread crypto market upswing. Its trading activity increased 55%, reaching around $4.7 billion, which represents roughly 5% of the token's circulating market capitalization.
The elevated volume indicates that trading activity expanded concurrently with the price increase. However, this data alone does not determine whether the volume stemmed from fresh buyers or from sellers covering short positions.
A broader short squeeze might have played a role in the price action. Per the report's data, short liquidations across the cryptocurrency market rose to about $665 million. Such liquidations compel traders who bet on declines to exit their positions, potentially magnifying an upward move.
XRP's advance also coincides with Ripple's ongoing expansion of its payments operations and the development of new applications for the XRP Ledger.
The report highlights a recently launched developer toolkit for creating AI agents capable of processing payments via the ledger and Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin. Stripe is mentioned as possible supporting infrastructure for this application. The extent of any future payment volume from this initiative is still uncertain.
In addition, two proposals being evaluated for the XRP Ledger may create a lending framework where XRP serves as collateral and RLUSD is used for settlement. Their ultimate impact hinges on approval, execution, and market uptake.
According to the data in the report, RLUSD's market cap stood close to $2.4 billion. An increase in the stablecoin may boost activity within Ripple's ecosystem, but this does not necessarily lead to a proportional increase in XRP's price.
The report's technical analysis points to a breakout from a descending flag formation on XRP's daily price chart.
The immediate hurdle is the $1.50 mark. A sustained break above this price would support the outlook for an advance to $1.80.
Additionally, the analyst forecasts a medium-term objective of $2.10 derived from the pattern's measured move, which suggests approximately 41% upside from the price at the time of the prediction.
These price targets are conditional. Following a steep rally and significant short liquidations, XRP requires sustained demand to maintain the breakout and push past $1.50.
