Crude oil rebounds as US prepares to order departures from Gulf embassies over renewed conflict fears.
Crude oil recovered some ground as fears revived of a possible restart of hostilities in the Middle East. Citing U.S. officials, Reuters reported that the State Department is preparing to order the departure of some personnel and family members from U.S. embassies across the Gulf. The move signals worry over a fresh outbreak of fighting, especially with the Iran-aligned Houthi militia in Yemen.
The news introduces additional uncertainty for oil traders. Diplomatic progress could push prices down, but renewed fighting concerns can swiftly draw buyers back. This report refocuses attention on risks to regional security and energy supply.
On the technical side, crude oil trades at $98.30. The bounce pushed the price back above the 100-hour moving average of $97.81 and toward testing the swing-area peak of $98.48. Buyers are active but nearing a point where sellers may step in to define their risk.
The $98.48 mark is the next critical test. A break above and sustained hold at that level would bolster the bullish case and allow additional gains. Conversely, if sellers cap the price at that level, the recovery could pause and reverse toward the 100-hour moving average.
To the downside, the $97.81 moving average now serves as a nearby risk-defining level for buyers. Recovering above that level has improved the near-term technical outlook. Buyers now want to see support forming around that level during a pullback. Holding above keeps the recovery intact; falling below would undo some of the recent technical progress.
Thus, the news has refocused attention on geopolitical risks, while technical levels offer traders benchmarks to gauge the reaction. Buyers have reclaimed the 100-hour moving average. They must now push through $98.48 to assume greater control.
