The Nasdaq Composite hit a record close, rising 2.26%, driven by Meta's surge and gains in chip stocks.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite set a new closing record of 27,122.09 on Monday, climbing 2.26% as technology stocks powered the advance. Meta shares jumped 11.34%, posting their best single-session performance since April 2025, fueled by excitement around the company's Muse AI assistant. Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and Arm Holdings also rallied, with investors weighing the computing needs that broadly adopted AI assistants might generate.
A decline in oil prices and a drop in Treasury yields created a friendlier environment for growth stocks. The overall market benefited from those shifts, but the magnitude of the Nasdaq's advance highlighted where the buying was most concentrated.

Meta's gains extend to semiconductor stocks
Meta's advance captured the spotlight, but it was not alone. In several instances, semiconductor stocks posted even bigger gains.
The early uptake of Muse provides investors with proof of consumer demand. It does not, however, clarify the revenue Meta will derive from that demand or the number of additional chips the service will necessitate. Traders are currently factoring in that potential; the actual financial performance has yet to materialize.
Significance of the Nasdaq's record close for traders
The Nasdaq Composite's all-time closing high is a positive signal: buyers drove the index past its previous closing peak and held it above that level at the market's close. The key question now is whether the index can remain above that breakout zone in the coming sessions. A fall back below that level would cast doubt on the breakout's durability.
This nuance is important for inexperienced traders. A strong session can create a bullish leaning, but it does not ensure the direction of the following day.
