Yuga Labs launches Mudwater card game on Solana with Bored Ape cards. Eight rare cracked-ice cards top the set.
Yuga Labs released Mudwater, a trading card game that uses both physical and digital Bored Ape cards on the Solana blockchain. The Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection, however, remains on Ethereum.
Current owners receive priority access. Each Bored Ape entitles the holder to 10 packs, while each Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC) NFT allows two packs. The entire supply is capped at 10,000 boxes.
Initially, Yuga distributed a Totem to each BAYC and MAYC token via airdrop.
The Totem operates on ERC-6551, an Ethereum protocol that assigns a dedicated wallet to each NFT. Claiming packs requires this Totem.

Instead of dice in alleys, we play Mudwater on the docks.
The game is simple, but the skill ceiling is high.
And we play for keeps.
We've just airdropped this 6551 Totem, paired to all BAYC & MAYC, enabling pack claims.
A pack contains 10 cards, with 24 packs making up one box. With 10,000 boxes, that totals 240,000 packs, equivalent to 2.4 million cards.
Bored Ape holders alone are eligible for 100,000 packs. Put differently, the owners of only 10,000 NFTs could claim roughly 42% of the entire set before market trading determines prices.
According to the team, eight Bored Ape cards rank highest as serialized cracked-ice 1/1s. Each is unique, and BAYC describes them as the set's grails.
Solana states that Mudwater includes 120 BAYC artworks, along with foils, and comes in physical and digital forms.

Bored Ape cards are already available for trading on OpenSea, together with distinct collections for Totems and packs. In the future, the team intends to allow holders to upgrade packs into boxes and cases.
The timing is noteworthy. In June, the NFT market capitalization approached record lows amid a decline in Ethereum.
Even celebrity-owned NFTs are questioned; Blockstream CEO Adam Back recently labeled Justin Bieber's Bored Ape as worthless. The Canadian pop star paid $1.3 million for it.
In contrast, tokenized collectibles saw growth in Q2 while the majority of crypto sectors contracted.
Nonetheless, other NFT platforms are pulling back. Blur, an NFT marketplace, recently revealed that its website will shut down.
BAYC also advised holders to verify every claim link through official sources. Yuga is familiar with the risks, having carried out a white-hat rescue following a protocol exploit that threatened Bored Apes.
In the end, the Bored Ape cards are a test of whether a top Ethereum brand can generate new interest on a competing blockchain. If the cards sell well, other NFT projects might shift liquidity between networks rather than remain committed to a single one.
