Key FX option expiries to watch on 5 November
EUR/USD option expiries at 1.1250 and 1.1275 could cap price action on Tuesday.
AUDUSD fell to a fresh session low of 0.6996, its weakest since October 22, and is now testing a swing support area between 0.69898 and 0.69943.
After a session of alternating moves, AUDUSD has extended to a fresh low for the day, with the pair grinding downward in stages.
The session opened with a probe of the 100-hour and 100-day moving averages around 0.7038. Sellers used that resistance to drive the pair down. Drops to 0.7014 and later 0.6998 drew rebound rallies, yet buyers were unable to keep those recoveries going. In the latest move, the session low reached 0.6996, the weakest level for the pair since October 22.
A key swing support zone draws attention
The pullback has left the price slightly above a swing zone running from 0.69898 to 0.69943 that dates back to September 30. Buyers and sellers now face that zone as the next important gauge.
Buyers aiming to stop the decline can lean on that support and keep close risk below it. For sellers, moving below 0.69898 and remaining there would open the door to added downside momentum toward 0.6970.
Last week’s recovery ran out of steam near the midpoint
Price action last week was also two-way, though the advance hit a ceiling on Thursday around the 50% midpoint of the drop from the September high. That retracement level was 0.70654, and the high came in just above it at 0.70674 before the pair turned lower.
The rejection at the 100-day and 100-hour moving averages in today’s session supplied sellers with the technical edge to push the decline further. Control stays with sellers while the price holds below those averages near 0.7038. The next task is to break the 0.69898–0.69943 swing zone and sustain the downward momentum.
Trading lesson: let technical levels set your risk
A swing zone offers traders a reference for judging whether buyers or sellers are gaining control. With AUDUSD nearing 0.69898–0.69943, buyers can lean on that support and place close risk below it. Holding the area is only the first step, though. Buyers must also drive the price away from the zone to demonstrate that they are building traction.
On the sellers’ side, a break under support requires follow-through. Pushing below the zone and keeping it there would reinforce the bearish bias. If a break quickly turns back above the area, it would mark a failed break and might force sellers to cover. The takeaway is to let price action at the level set the bias, risk, and next target.
