Bitcoin moved above key moving averages but failed to hold, leaving the market in neutral territory as buyers and sellers vie for control.
Bitcoin attempted a move higher during the session, though buyers still need to demonstrate further strength.
After climbing above its 100- and 200-hour moving averages to touch $83,075, the price has since fallen back to trade between those levels. This brings the short-term outlook back to a neutral stance, as market participants await the next decisive move.
Last week’s rebound stalled below the moving averages
Bitcoin rallied last week but met resistance around $84,178, forming a ceiling before turning lower. The subsequent drop pushed the price under its 100- and 200-hour moving averages and into the $80,106–$81,183 swing area.
On Thursday, the low briefly dipped under that region, but sellers failed to maintain the pressure. The price rebounded towards the declining moving averages, staying below them throughout the weekend.
Sellers had an opportunity below support but could not capitalize. Meanwhile, buyers still needed to reclaim the moving averages to assert dominance.
The session's upward breakout has stalled.
The 100-hour moving average, at $81,748
The 200-hour moving average, at $82,279
The rally reached $83,075, aided possibly by a stock rebound that supported risk appetite. But during the early North American session, the price turned back down, slipping under the 200-hour moving average and settling between the two averages.
Buyers had their chance above both moving averages but failed to sustain the momentum. For now, neither camp has a tight grip.
What could shift the balance?
To the downside, if the price falls below the 100-hour moving average at $81,748, sentiment would swing back to the sellers. The $80,106–$81,183 swing area would then be the next support. A sustained break under that zone would pave the way for additional bearish movement.
On the upside, buyers must recapture the 200-hour moving average at $82,279 and hold above it. That would bring today's peak of $83,075 back into focus, and then last week's high around $84,178. Beyond that, the next objective is the $85,578–$87,374 swing region.
Currently, the fight is concentrated between the moving averages. A decisive move beyond those boundaries would provide a directional lean and a close risk reference.
The wider range established in mid-September is still intact. Escaping that range is the larger test, but first the nearer conflict must be settled.
