Trump Renews $5,000 Midterm Pledge, Bitcoin May Benefit

Trump reiterates $5,000 midterm dividend promise. Prediction markets give Republican sweep only 7% chance, limiting bitcoin upside.

President Trump has renewed his promise that every American adult will receive a $5,000 “Trump Dividend” if the Republicans win the November midterms.

Previous stimulus-like payments have historically benefited crypto markets and the price of bitcoin. That raises the question: could a Republican victory actually be bullish for bitcoin?

If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate in the 2026 Midterm Elections, I’m going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America, $5,000! Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to signing those checks! pic.twitter.com/YOkESiUBrc

What Is the Trump Dividend, and Could It Lift Bitcoin?

The Trump Dividend would provide a $5,000 payment to roughly 240 to 250 million eligible adults, dependent on a full Republican sweep of Congress.

The total cost would exceed $1.2 trillion, far surpassing combined COVID-era payments, which peaked at around $3,200 per adult across multiple rounds.

Cleveland Fed research found that those earlier $1,200 checks drove only a 3.8% rise in bitcoin buying volume and a 0.7% price increase, with just 0.02% of the funds flowing into bitcoin.

Nevertheless, BeInCrypto has highlighted genuine upside potential. Purchases of bitcoin increased after stimulus rounds under both Trump and Biden, each time showing measurable, if modest, crypto inflows.

Investor Anthony Pompliano has argued that larger payouts would likely push bitcoin, gold, and land prices higher across the board.

Trump claims that if the Democrats win the midterms, which is very likely, we will have "an economic depression the likes of 1929." So despite his being able to veto anything they pass, the economy he now claims is the strongest ever will immediately collapse into a depression.

Bitcoin is currently trading near $85,000. If Republicans sweep the midterms and Trump’s $5,000 checks actually go out, that scale of liquidity could plausibly push bitcoin toward the $95,000 to $100,000 range, especially given today’s deeper ETF access and institutional demand.

However, the current crypto market seems far less dependent on U.S. elections and more on macro conditions. If a Democratic win in the midterms means Trump’s war on Iran would end, then that could be even more bullish for crypto and all financial markets.

Will the $5,000 Promise Actually Get Delivered?

Prediction markets heavily question that outcome, and the numbers currently point the other way. Polymarket’s 2026 midterms contract gives a full Republican sweep, necessary to pass this plan, just a 7% chance as of early October.

A Democratic sweep leads at 65%, while a split Congress sits at 29%. The contract has already drawn more than $16 million in trading volume, and the gap between the two outcomes keeps widening.

Funding also remains unresolved, since tariff revenue falls well short of covering the plan’s cost. Trump’s prior unfulfilled pledges, including DOGE and tariff dividends, add further skepticism among traders and analysts watching the midterm odds closely.

If the payment were ever delivered, the liquidity injection would likely benefit bitcoin, especially given today’s deeper ETF access and institutional adoption.

Any added inflation could also reinforce bitcoin’s hedge narrative among investors. But with Democrats currently favored to win, markets appear more likely to treat this promise as campaign rhetoric than a near-term price catalyst, at least for now.
