Zcash consolidates as macro risks cap further gains

Zcash consolidates as macro headwinds like inflation and geopolitical risks cap gains, with key catalysts ahead.

Zcash has seen notable price swings recently, with the initial uptick fueled by rising institutional interest and several developments specific to its ecosystem. A boost to sentiment came when Paradigm revealed its investment in Zcash, calling the cryptocurrency a possible private alternative to Bitcoin. The institutional adoption story was reinforced by the debut of 21Shares' first European Zcash ETP and fresh inflows into Grayscale's Zcash ETF.

Yet after the strong rally, profit-taking and ETF outflows weighed on the digital asset as macroeconomic pressures began to take hold. Risk appetite was dampened by inflation worries, growth concerns, Federal Reserve rate increases, geopolitical uncertainty and AI-related troubles. More recently, Zcash decreased following reports of a Binance security incident that allegedly drained about $6.3 billion from numerous wallets.

In the past, cryptocurrency selloffs stemming from exchange hacks have often been succeeded by a recovery, though the pace depended on the economic backdrop. The initial response typically stems from fear, uncertainty and forced liquidations rather than a weakening of the underlying cryptocurrency fundamentals.

Going forward, attention will center on the US-Iran talks and the US midterm elections. Sentiment improved somewhat over the weekend after Iran put forward a two-day framework to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a much shorter timeline than the earlier seven-day proposal. However, a shift in the current bearish trend probably requires a breakthrough in US-Iran negotiations or dovish comments from the Fed.

A surprising Republican sweep in the US midterms could also give Zcash a lift if markets reassess expected fiscal discipline. Conversely, a Democratic sweep could add to pressure on the crypto market should there be no resolution to the Iran conflict.

ZCASH TECHNICAL ANALYSIS – DAILY TIMEFRAME

On the daily chart, Zcash is nearing a key resistance zone near the 1,380 level. Should the price reach that area, sellers are expected to step in with a defined risk above resistance, positioning for a decline to the 1,031 support. Buyers, meanwhile, will want to see a breakout higher to ramp up bullish bets toward the 1,692 level next.

ZCASH TECHNICAL ANALYSIS – 4 HOUR TIMEFRAME

On the 4 hour chart, an upward trendline defines the bullish momentum. Buyers are likely to keep leaning on the trendline with a defined risk below it, aiming to push into new highs. Sellers, in contrast, will look for a break lower to pile in for a drop toward the 1,031 support next.

ZCASH TECHNICAL ANALYSIS – 1 HOUR TIMEFRAME

On the 1 hour chart, there is not much to add as sellers will probably wait for the price to hit resistance or break below the trendline, while buyers will seek a break above resistance or a bounce around the trendline. The red lines mark the average daily range for today.
