Investor Who Foresaw AI Boom Predicts Bitcoin Crash to $57,000
Veteran investor Jason Calacanis predicts Bitcoin will fall to $57,000 within 12 months, saying it will never reach a new all-time high.
Bitcoin trades in a narrow range above and below $80,000, with buyers defending support and sellers facing resistance from moving averages.
Since September and October highs created a ceiling around $87,374, bitcoin has been trending downwards. Sellers found a well-defined zone to defend after repeated failures at that price. Buyers had chances to push higher but failed to hold any breakout. The digital currency has subsequently declined.
Yet sellers are also facing a barrier.
Buyers keep stepping in around $80,000, which has slowed the drop and kept bitcoin oscillating in a tight band on either side of that line. Although sellers hold the near-term technical edge, they still must demonstrate they can breach that support and remain below it.
The ceiling was defined by the September and October highs.
A critical ceiling was set by repeated peaks in the $86,969 to $87,374 range. Traders pay attention when several advances halt at the same level. Sellers obtain a reference point for managing risk, while buyers learn what must be cleared to continue the uptrend.
After the most recent rejection at that resistance, the price has dropped and currently sits beneath both the 100-hour moving average ($80,408) and the 200-hour moving average ($81,403).
This maintains a bearish short-term inclination. But support underneath has stopped sellers from converting that edge into a prolonged decline.
The $80,000 region continues to be the key downside gauge.
A frequently tested swing zone between $79,580 and $80,000 is evident. This area has served as both support and resistance, making it an important measure for market participants.
The frequency of tests is significant. Buyers keep protecting the zone, yet each revisit adds stress to the support.
For sellers, a quick drop under $80,000 is just the beginning. They must drive below the swing zone and maintain the breakout. A decline past $79,146 (the weekend trade low) would boost bearish momentum and provide further rationale for traders to eye the next significant support cluster.
That support cluster is made up of:
$76,052: the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement from the July low uptrend.
$75,754: the 100-day moving average.
$74,925: the lower swing support level.
Combined, these levels form a larger support area between $74,925 and $76,052. With a retracement level, a key daily moving average, and historical swing support all overlapping, that zone would become a critical test should the existing floor break.
What could tilt the advantage back to buyers?
The initial requirement is to reclaim and hold above the 100-hour moving average at $80,408. Doing so would relieve some of the short-term selling pressure.
A more significant move would be a sustained break above the 200-hour moving average at $81,403. Conquering both averages would grant buyers greater command and establish a firmer technical base for a rebound to $83,062 and then to $84,178.
For now, defending support allows buyers to maintain a foothold, but they must recapture resistance to alter the technical outlook.
Bitcoin faces a floor near $80,000 and resistance from moving averages above. A decisive drop below the floor would reinforce the sellers' position. A rise back above both hourly moving averages would offer buyers a chance to regain dominance.
Bitcoin's technical ladder
With the current price at $80,127, bitcoin sits below the 100-hour moving average but above the low of the swing area. Traders are awaiting the next shove and run.
